There is just something nice about a hat that fits perfectly but our heads are all different sizes so how do you design a system that allows everyone to get their perfect fit? 

To start you need to understand what has been done in the past and then look to see if any of those methods would apply to the Wala Hat™. None did. Through design, we had eliminated the possibility of any traditional fastenings as the Wala Hat™ has a rigid 360-degree brim to ensure comprehensive sun protection.

Also on our design list was the need to have a removable sweatband made of a material that provided a comfortable fit and effective moisture-wicking coupled to the outside brim of the hat. We had extensive prior experience with bamboo fiber for other products and understood not only its amazing properties but also knew it could stretch.

From this base concept, we had the foundation to enhance the use of the sweatband beyond the original purpose for comfort and moisture-wicking to include adjustment.

The sweatband has become the most complex part of the Wala Hat™. It has several components that are integrated with a complex inner adjuster, manufactured in one of the most sophisticated/technical knitting mills in the world, resulting in a new and much more effective way to get a personalised fit. This innovative approach to comfort and sizing has also given us an opportunity to work toward a provisional patent for this unique design.

A technical hat design means that you have to work with accuracy so our base method of measurement is the SI metric system. We understand that there are historical sizing guides for many apparel items like shoes and hats that are notated differently around the world so we have devised a universal solution that will work with all that history. 

Traditional fitted caps and some hats are available in up to 12 incremental fixed sizes. The Wala Hat™ in its extended range has 5 base sizes  – Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large.

The base sizes are:

• Extra Small: 54-56CM
• Small: 56-58CM
• Medium: 58-60CM
• Large: 60-62CM
• Extra Large: 62-64CM

and within those base sizes, we are able to 

• Accommodate a head size differential of 20mm.
• Within that 20mm range, infinite adjustment can be made
• The sweatband adjuster has guides that are placed for 2.5mm incremental sizing to assist with a perfect fit
